The 30th CERN School of Computing will be held at Importanne Resort* in Dubrovnik, Croatia, from Monday 20 August to Friday, 31 August 2007(1)

Participation |
The School is open to
postgraduate students and research workers with a few years'
experience in elementary particle physics, in computing or in
related fields. The number of participants will be limited to
80. Applicants may come from CERN Member States as well as from countries that are not Member
States of CERN. Personal contacts and informal discussions among the participants during leisure time are an important aspect of the School. For this reason, participants are asked to note that they should not be accompanied by family members or friends.

Participants will be accommodated in the Importanne Resort* situated in the town of Dubrovnik and will be lodged in comfortable double rooms with private bathrooms (that is, they will share the double room with a schoolmate)

Language |
The working language of the School will be English. There will be no simultaneous translation. Participants should therefore have sufficient understanding of English to enable them to benefit from the School.

Registration |
Participants should reach Dubrovnik for registration during the afternoon or early evening of Sunday, 19 August 2007. Registration will take place at the reception of the Hotel Neptun from 13:00 to 19:00.

Travel |
The Dubrovnik airport
is located at 20 km from the Importanne Resort (Hotel
Neptun) Two special CSC buses will be arranged on Sunday 19 August at 12:15 and 16:15 from the airport to the Hotel. The special CSC buses will be identified with a CSC logo.
However, if you prefer to take another bus, please note that the ATLAS Bus are available upon arrival of every regular flight for a transfer to downtown Dubrovnik (the ticket price is 35 kn ~4 euros). This bus stops at Pile square (entrance old town) and then you will take the bus nr. 6 ‘Pile-Babin Kuk’ to the last station. The ATLAS bus stops also at the main bus station and then you have to take the bus nr. 7 ‘Kantafig-Babin Kuk’ (the ticket price is 8 kn ~1 euro). Note that this last bus stop is at ~50m to the Hotel Neptun. (Public buses: Libertas Dubrovnik)
The transport via the two special CSC buses is free or charge, but you will bear the cost of any other transportation means (taxi, regular bus, …).

Liability and Insurance |
Participation in the CERN School of Computing and in all activities organized in the framework thereof (whether by CERN or by third parties) is at the participant's own risk and neither CERN nor the third parties concerned accept any liability with regard thereto. Equipment and materials made available to participants during the CERN School of Computing are made available on an "as-is-basis" without any warranties express or implied. Their use shall be under the sole responsibility and at the sole risk of the participants. Participants shall be solely responsible and liable regarding their property and CERN shall have no liability in case of loss, theft or damage thereof. Participants shall ensure that, there shall at all times during the latter's participation in the CERN School of Computing be insurance cover against illnesses and accidents valid in the place of venue, and against disability and death resulting from illnesses and accidents of the participants. The participant shall hold CERN free and harmless from, and indemnify it for any cost or expense resulting from the situation where any part of the insurance cover detailed above is not in place.

Cost |
The cost of the School per participant comprises three components:

Method of
|
Part or all of the Fees and Living Expenses above, as well as part or all of the travel costs may be reimbursed to participants eligible for grants that CERN has obtained from the European Union 6th Framework Programme. See Grants to cover living costs, travel costs and fees.
The sum of 1300 euros should be paid prior to the school into the following account upon receipt of the letter of acceptance.

Candidates should ensure that not only have they completed the web application form, but that a signed formal letter of reference (on formal headed paper from the applicant's institute/organization) from their professor or supervisor, reaches the School Administrator (Mrs Fabienne Baud-Lavigne) by 15th of May 2007 at the latest. In addition, a certification form (PDF version | Word version) must be filled in and signed by the applicant's professor or supervisor (and not by the applicant) and returned to Mrs. Fabienne Baud-Lavigne by 15th of May 2007.
Applications received after 15th of May 2007, 17:30 will not be considered.
The selection of the participants will be made by the Advisory Committee and participants will be informed of the outcome of their application by the middle of June 2007. Note: applications are for the entire programme. It is not possible to register for one theme only.

Cancellation |
The CERN School of Computing Advisory Committee reserves the right to refuse reimbursement of part or all of the fee in the case of late cancellation. However, each case of cancellation would be considered individually.

Replacement |
In all cases of withdrawal or cancellation, whether last-minute or otherwise, the choice of a replacement, if any, will lie entirely with the Advisory Committee and not with the laboratory or institute where the withdrawing participant works.
