Details of Activities in Sport Afternoon

All activities will start  from the University campus and will end at Mariaspring

Sport S5

 


 

Rock Climbing  (level of physical difficulty 5)

4 Hours 14:00-18:00
Maximum number of participants:4

Location: Near Mariaspring (5 min walk from Mariaspring)

Description: This is a unique opportunity for beginners having attended the in-door climbing session the day before or for those having some climbing skills to experience outdoor climbing as well.

Required skills and health condition

  • This is open to any participant , male and female,  having some experience in climbing (e.g. after sattending the CSC indoor climbing lesson the 19th of  August).

    It is preferable  that participants are not afraid of space.

Instructions

  • Shoes with reasonably thin soles (like indoor  shoes) are preferable.

  • It is preferable to wear loose clothing (loose sport shirt and trouser)

How it will be organized

  • Explanations  / demonstrations by professors, practice.

  • Session will include three types of activity: .

    • Real climbing (with top rope)

    • Bouldering (can  be done without rope)

    • Slack lining (for fun)

What will be provided?

  • Two instructors, ropes and climbing gear

  • Note shoes are not provided

  • Transportation by private car to and from the site 

Sport S4

 

 

Lake and River Canoeing (level of physical difficulty 4)  
4 Hours 14:00-18:00

Location: Kiessee lake then, Leine river

Description: Full half-day afternoon on the Kiessee Lake and Leine river.  For discovering lake and river canoeing for an afternoon adventure. Start at 14:00; end at 18:00

Required skills and health condition

  • This is open to any participant , male and female, in reasonably good physical condition.

  • Requires that participants are not afraid of water and of course can swim.

Instructions

  • Dressing: sport shows, soft trouser (short if warm), sport shirt, rain jacket (depending on weather)

  • Small-size personal items (changing clothes) can be safely stored in cars (canoes are open with no waterproof containers). TBC

  • A warm casual change (e.g. pull over) is recommended for use after the canoeing session

  • Participants are advised to bring a bottle of water.

How it will be organized?

  • First the CSC Sport-Day "Göttingen Bus" will transport participants to the Kiessee lake (about two km south from the centre of Göttingen.

  • Then, participants will lave their clothes and other stuff not needed for canoing  in the bus.

  • The participants will then  start the canoe journey from the Kiessee lake, then onto the Leine rver.

  • Two small busses will take the participants form the arrival point on the river to the departure point on the lake.

  • Three instructors from the the University canoeing club will be available to provide explanations and supervision all over the afternoon.

What will be provided?

  • Canoeing instructors/guides, single seated canoes and canoeing equipment, life jackets.

  • Transportation to and from the activity site

Sport S3






Adventure Park (level of physical difficulty 3)
3 Hours 15:00-18:00

Location: "Skyrope" park, Bad Harzburg (Harz region, 90 km east of Göttingen, about one hour and fifteen min by bus)

Description:  A panel of acrobatic activities of varying difficulty and under professional supervision.

Required skills and health condition

  • Reasonable physical condition

  • It is preferable  that participants are not afraid of space.

Instructions

  • Dressing: It is preferable to wear loose clothing (loose sport shirt and trouser), sport shoes, rain jacket if uncertain weather

  • Participants are advised to bring a bottle of water.

 How it will be organized

  • The CSC Sport-day "Harz" bus will drive the participants to Bad Harzburg where professional instructors will explain the session.

What will be provided?

  • All necessary equipment, .gear,..(TBC)

  • Transportation to and from the activity site

Sport S2


Biking (level of physical difficulty 2)

Location: Seeburger lake region , about 20 m east of Götingen

Description:  Reasonably easy Round Tour to Seeburger See near Göttingen (total tour about -40 km TBC).

  • Reasonable conditions

Instructions

  • Dressing: biking, walking or running clothes, sport shoes, rain jacket if uncertain weather

  • Participants are advised to bring a bottle of water.

 How it will be organized

  • First the CSC Sport-Day "Göttingen Bus" will transport participants to the Trains station / Bike rental lae.

  • Then the tour to  Seeburger See will start.

  • Return to the train station.

What will be provided?

  • Bikes, supervision

  • Transportation to the activity site

  • Note: Helmets will not  be provided. Those who wish to wear helmets should bring their own.

Sport S1

 

 

 

 

Hiking (level of physical difficulty 1)
3 Hours 15:00-18:00

Location: Round trip at Bad Harzburg

Description: Open to any participants, walk in beautiful Harz region forests.  The tour will last about abut 3 hours.

Required skills and health condition

  • Easy activity. Open to everyone capable of walking a few hours.

Instructions

  • Dressing: casual clothes, sport shoes, rain jacket if uncertain weather

  • Participants are advised to bring a bottle of water.

How it will be organized

  • The CSC Sport-day "Harz" bus will drive the participants to Bad Harzburg where the hiking tour will start.

What will be provided?

  • Hiking guide from the Physics Institute

  • Transportation to and from the activity site
