Welcome to the CERN School of Computing in Gjøvik!!

Dinner tonight
Tonight, Sunday 24 August 2008, the dinner (buffet) will be served from 20:30 to 22:00 in the Muftad Room of the Thon hotel, located in the second floor (not on the ground floor)[1]

Ø       Please be on time and wear your CSC badge.

CSC Badges and Photo GUC Access cards
You have received your CSC Badge at registration time.
You will be provided also with a GUC Access Card with photo when on the GUC campus.

·          This Photo Access Card will be necessary to access

§          the campus rooms outside normal hours (i.e after 16:00 for the Exercise  Building A, after 17:00 for the Cafeteria Building G, any time for the Exercise room, any building before 07:00)

§          for lunches and for access to some recreational facilities

Breakfast, Lunches and Dinners - Coffees
Breakfasts           will be served       from        07:30      to            08:20      Thon Hotel regular restaurant, first floor (ground level)

Lunches               will be served       from        12:30      until        14:00      GUC Cafetaria, G Building

Dinners                                will be served       from        20:30      until        21:30      Thon Hotel, Muftad room, 2^nd floor

During tuition periods, coffees and drinks will be served in the Entrance Hall of the Lecture or Exercise rooms building

Morning Buses to the GUC campus
Two buses will leave at 08:30 sharp from the back parking behind the Thon Hotel

Ø       Buses will not wait, therefore, plan to leave the hotel lobby at 08:25 at the latest

In the evening, you will walk back along the river to return to the hotel (15 min)

Opening reception, Monday evening (25^th)
Please note that the opening reception / dinner will take place in the Olympic Cavern, 5 min walk from the campus, at 19:30,  just after the last session of the day. Therefore, there will be no time to return to the hotel before the reception

Extra expenses
Any extra expenses including extra beverages, extra meals (e.g. during excursion for those not participating), telephone calls, mini-bar, laundry, room services, … will be a your own cost. You will be asked to leave a print of your credit card to the hotel desk.

We advise you to pay directly in cash your extra expenses whenever possible. If instead you give your room number for payment at checkout time, be sure to write down your name and sign the bill. This also stands for the use of the minibar or of the Internet in your room. CERN will not arbitrate any conflict between two participants from the same room who would disagree on their respective expenses.

Problems / requests regarding the hotel
In case of general (non-trivial) problem / request / complain regarding the hotel, please contact us first and not the hotel.

Tuition

The lectures and exercises are held in 2 different rooms in the University College (Lectures: K105; Exercises A213 ).

The tuition starts at 09:00 in the morning and generally resumes at 16:00 in the afternoon…………. be punctual!

Ø       Sign the attendance list at the beginning of every half-day (at 09:00 and 16:00, …)

School secretariat

The school secretariat is located in room A220, a few meters from the exercise room.

Computers for exercises
The exercise room is provided with computers for each pair of students. Only these computers can be used for exercises and may be connected to the exercise room wired network. They will have Internet access.

Ø       Your login and password were given to you during your CSC registration (see with Andreas Hirstius or Thomas Guerin in case of problems)

Laptops and wireless access
Internet wireless access is provided by CERN on the Lecture and Exercise rooms for the students coming with their own laptop.

Ø       If you want to connect to the University wireless network, please fill out the attached form and return it on the dedicated table nest to the lecture room at the first lecture opening, Monday 25th, 11:00.

Wire line Internet access is available in all rooms of the Thon Hotel, but at our own expenses. You must leave a credit card print at the front desk of the hotel.
