Facilities

Cash dispense

There is one at Hilton and couple of them on the University Campus. However there are many bank branches around and close by to Hilton. The closest bank is 500m away from the Hotel.

Currency exchanges

  • There is one at the Hotel but the best solution is going to one of the banks in Nicosia Center.
  • However banking hours are 8:15-13:30 Monday - Friday.
  • There is no bank in a walking distance from the University Campus.

Supermarket

  • Food Market: Across the street from Hilton there is a supermarket (Theodoros Supermarket on 3E Ethnikis Frouras str).
  • There is also convenient stores on the streets around the Hotel operating 24h.
  • Close to the University (within 15min walk) you can find two supermarkets: Lidl and Carrefour (Opening hours 8:00-21:00 Monday-Saturday and 9:00-21:00 on Sunday)

Shopping centre

  • Hilton is located at the beginning of the main avenue of Nicosia (Archibishop Makariou III) which leads to the city's shopping center.
  • It will take you 15min walk but there are also many stores on the way.
  • Opening hours is 8:30-13:30 and 15:30-18:30 Mon-Friday. Wednesday and Saturday are 8:30-13:30.
Where to have a drink

Many bars, some within 10 min from the hotel close to the university old campus, some others within 15 min walk but most of them in the old town which is about 35 min walk from the hotel.

Opening hours after 10:00pm (at least to find other people there) .

Public Transportation

Within the city

Service

  • The service is rather new in the country but it has developed quite well during the last three years of its existence. Unfortunately the bus service ends quiet early in the evening (~19:30 to 20:30 the latest). Ticket price is 1.5Euro/ride.
  • On Friday and weekend there are some night buses (00:30, 03:00) and the ticket price for those is 2.5Euro/ride. All routes and bus schedules can be found on the official site http://www.osel.com.cy/?wp=index_en

Routes

  • The most useful routes are the ones served via buses 116,121,158,160 going from Hilton (stop Archibishop Makariou C 1 or 2) towards Solomos square which is at the beginning of the old town. However the distance is not more than ~2.5km.
  • The most frequent schedules are the ones for buses 158 and 160 and then for bus 116.
  • Bus 121 runs mainly early morning hours and there is one at 15:00.
  • Another useful route is the one connecting Hilton and the University Campus (bus 150).
    • However the stop is not the same as the previous street but 5 min walk towards the old University campus which on the 1st street parallel to Hilton (Kallipoleos Ave).

Public Transportation

Outside the city

  • There is one useful web page giving information about intercity buses connecting Nicosia with Limassol, Paphos.
  • The buses stop also on the bus stop across Hilton Hotel.
  • Tickets can be purchased while boarding the bus.
    • You may ask the driver for help or any clarification regarding the tickets and their validity. Below you may be informed about the ticket fees and validity for your transportation in Nicosia and district

Taxis

  • You need to call a taxi company; you cannot hail a taxi on the street.
    • From Hilton it is really easy since there are always taxis available.
  • There is also a taxi company located near the Hilton so one could call them directly to arrange for a ride when away from Hilton. The company is called Euro taxi (phone: +357 22513000).

  • The starting price is 3.45Euro and from then on 0.75Euro/km.ul>
  • For example a taxi ride from the University campus to Hilton (~6km) will cost ~8.00Euro and the ride from the old town to Hilton about 5.50Euro.

Laundromat

  • There is a student residence building across the university campus with coins.
    • No detergent or anything is provided so people should use their own.
  • It will be open for the duration of the school and can be used by everybody in the school, during 12:30 t0 16:30.
  • The University Campus (UC) Hall Residence is situated at the opposite side of the Leventis Building (1), where the Lectures are held. (accross the road, building with some yellow and pink color See map). The washing machines and dryers are located on the basement level. Duration: 35mn for the washing machine - 3 euros and 40mn for the dryer - 2 euros. Coins of 0.50, 1.- or 2.-.  Note that from the laundry place, you will not be able to get in the building again (access card needed) and will have to go around it to find your way back to the Campus.

 

  • For those that do not want to use the university laundromat and maybe want to combine it with some site seeing, there is one laundromat service in the old town across McDonalds on Ledras Street (the main pedestrian street of the old town).
