Notting Hill Carnival

Aatos Heikkinen, who arrived yesterday and will give a series lectures on Data Analysis as part of the Physics Computing theme, is also a amateur of music and festival.

He will go tonight to London for the last day of the Notting Hill Carnival, which takes place this week-end in London.
This is the oldest and largest Carnival of this type in Europe.

If interested, you may join Aatos after the exercise session. See him after the session.

BBQ Tomorrow
After the Sport Afternoon a BBQ is organized Thursday 26 evening as a replacement of the usual dinner.
It will take place in the The Hub (your favorite after-dinner place on the campus) on the first floor of the Hamilton Centre. If weather permits (who knows, we may dream), we can eat on the terrace.

A Band from the  School of Engineering and Design, Brunel, will entertain us.

  • The INDEMNITY FORM  to discharge liability of the Fitness Centre    

  • The LIFESTYLE CONSULTATION form, which gather a certain number of  health-related data  

The copies of the forms are only provided above to let you  have a preview and inform you of the type of questions they ask or aspects they address.

Tickets (up to 10) will be distributed up 11:00 everyday.

We count on the fairness and sense of social behavior of the participants to only take one of the 10 tickets if they actually intend to go  to the centre, at least for a reasonable duration (not necessary for the entire afternoon).

Indeed, once entering the centre, the ticket is lost. It can however be passed on to another willing participant before entering the fitness centre, in case of last minute impromptu impediment.

Please read carefully the Arrival Information provided at the time of the school Registration, Sunday 22nd.

Sports at CSCs
Do not forget to bring clothes and shoes suitable for the Sport Programme if interested.

The programme features a range of Daily Sports Options, a special Outdoor Sports Day, as well as the traditional matches and tournaments (Football, Badminton and Tennis).

Registrations to the various activities and special on-site applications (such as the Photo Gallery or the Evaluation Questionnaire) are not yet open. They will open progressively, starting Monday 23 August.
(No panic, some of you thought it was too late for some sports ...)

In the meantime, you may visit the corresponding sites (Social Programme, Outings, Sports, Excursion, ...) to try figuring out what they are and prepare your decisions.

Opening Ceremony

The Opening Ceremony will take place the 23rd of August at 09:00 in the Howell Theatre, Howell Building.   
It will be followed by a coffee break in the Atrium of the Michael Sterling Building (ground floor)

 

Then, the first lecture will start in the Lecture room of the  Michael Sterling Building. (1st floor).

Today, 13th of August, the Last Information before school starts has been sent by email to all participants (pdf version ).
It provides details on airport arrival, registration location and time as well as on-site accommodation and Sports at CSC.
It also contains the wireless the Wireless form .

Wireless

If you wish access to the wireless network on the Brunel campus, use the form attached to the last Information package sent to you the 13th of August (you may also download the word version from here ).

Fill it out preferably electronically (by using the Word version; in last resort you may print it and fill it in manually)  and send it by email to computing (dot) school) at cern (dot) ch.

Alternatively, you may bring it to Brunel and give it  to Fabienne at registration time, but the opening of your access will take more time.

Registration

Registration to the school will take place in lobby of the Michael Sterling building (zone C), Sunday 22nd  from 14:00 to 19:00.
(in case of late arrival the accommodation access card and key should be picked-up from Security Office situated on the corner of Wilfred Brown building)

When arriving at Brunel University (unless late arrival) please first go to the CSC registration desk and not to the Hostel/Bishop Hall:

At the CSC registration desk, where you will meet Fabienne Baud-Lavigne and Rebecca Byrne, you will receive school material, instructions and a map of the different locations as well as your room key.
