Sports at CSC2013

Welcome to the CSC Sports Programme

Introduced a few years ago, the sport programme proposes two to three hours of sport every afternoon to those who are interested. The aim of the programme is not only to provide a healthy work-life balance before the late afternoon working sessions begin, but it also provides additional opportunities for interactions between students, lecturers and organizers. Several of the lecturers act as sport instructors or organizers.

We hope that all students attending the school  will appreciate and participate in the programme.

Francois Fluckiger, Director of the CERN School of Computing

Sports at CSC is supported by the CERN Medical Service and is part of CERN's  Move+Eat better programme.

What are the objectives of the sports programme?

  • The participation to sport activities is fully voluntary (as is the participation to other social activities)

  • The aim is to provide opportunities for refreshing activities in particular before the final afternoon working sessions (as an alternative to the free study hours)

  • It also provides additional opportunities for interactions between students and lecturers / organizers

What, when and where?

  • The daily sport activities will be proposed during afternoons in the Campus Sports Centre, 2 min walk from the tuition buildings.

  • One special Outdoor Sports-Day (Thursday 22nd  of August) is proposed. Participants will select one or two proposed sport activities. For those who prefer resting, a relaxing stay  on the Makronissos beach is proposed.

  • The CSC traditional football match, which will take place the second Thursday, after the examination, on the illuminated campus football pitch.

  • Tennis Tournament   may be organized the second Wednesday afternoon
